Are Paper Cups Compostable?

Can you compost paper cups? The response is yes, no and depends.

I emailed a bunch of business that create paper cups as well as inquired if their cups included a plastic liner, as well as if so, what kind was used.

With the exception of Solo as well as Chinet, all the other firms got back to me (although Dart and Solo seem part of the exact same conglomerate, and also Dart responded). I couldn't tell if the customer support people were weirded out by my inquiries ... am I the only individual asking this? Most likely close to it, yet with any luck not the just one.

My study into Solo was most definitely one of the most peculiar. I had no suggestion there was a (horrible) song dedicated to red solo cups, and after that within that track saying that "within 14 years they are decomposable" ... come on Toby- plastic does not break down, it simply burglarizes smaller sized pieces for the fish to consume. Going even more, there's a Facebook follower page showing off over 45,000 likes ... for red solo mugs.

Anyway, Solo does have an "eco onward" line of product called Bare. Rejoice. This cup makes use of a tremendous 20% article customer recycled plastic in its plastic mugs. I was wishing their eco line would have either mugs made from PLA or paper mugs with a soybean wax liner, but I guess you can not have all of it. Avoid this company. Is their competition better?

I'm getting ahead of myself. My point for doing the study to begin with was due to the fact that I didn't recognize that almost all paper cups have a slim plastic (polyethylene) lining within them, which is to maintain the cup from crumbling (think coffee). Remarkably, even a large amount of the "chilly mugs" have a liner too.

I know from experience that it's difficult to make use of a bioplastic mug with warm fluid in it ... the mug falls apart rather rapidly. However I likewise know that it's feasible to use a paper cup with a PLA (polylactic acid, a compostable plastic) lining with good results. Just how about a doubly thick paper cup with wax?
